FSG NickNack ambassador Josh Kennedy visits the wash station

FSG NickNack ambassador Josh Kennedy joined the team at the wash station last week. We’re honoured to have Josh part of the FrothStop Group family as we continue to grow our reusable cup system across major venues.

The heart of the operation

The wash station is the heart of our closed-loop system. Every cup that comes back through it is one less cup ending up in landfill, and one more step toward making major venues cleaner and more sustainable for everyone. That’s what FSG NickNack is about, and Josh has been part of it close up since coming on board as our ambassador.

The alignment with Josh Kennedy

Josh spent 17 seasons playing for the West Coast Eagles, making him one of the most decorated forwards in AFL history. He knows stadiums. He gets what it takes to deliver a great experience for tens of thousands of fans on game day, and he understands better than most what goes on behind the scenes to make that happen.

A closed loop system built for scale

The wash station itself is a purpose-built operation based in Perth, right next to the FrothStop Group headquarters, and designed to handle the volume that major venues demand. Cups are returned, sorted, cleaned and returned to circulation, removing the need for single-use alternatives entirely. The washing system can sanitise and dry up to 10,000 cups per hour, and each cup is built to withstand up to 500 wash cycles. It’s a fully closed loop system: cups arrive at the stadium in reusable transport boxes, are returned to collection bins after use, washed and sanitised at the wash station, then repacked and sent back ready for the next event.

The numbers speak for themselves

Since launching at Optus Stadium, we’ve processed over 300,000 cups with a 94% recovery rate. Those numbers are the result of a system that’s been designed to work under pressure, and a team that’s committed to making it happen event after event, regardless of crowd size, weather and other pressures that come with game day operations. The 94% recovery rate in particular is a number we’re proud of. It shows us that fans are behind it, the venue is behind it, and the system is delivering at scale. Don’t take our word for it

Feedback from Craig Menzies, GM F&B at Optus Stadium, backs this:

“With another massive Western Derby at Optus Stadium this past weekend, the fans ticked over on 300,000 reusable cups used since March 21st this year. This prevented that number of single use cups being wasted. An achieved recovery rate of over 94% on those 300,000 cups over the first 6 events has been incredible and a testament to the great fans we have, doing their part in making Western Australia’s stadium sustainable.

A big thank you to FrothStop Group, their innovative wash facilities, handling and processes has made providing on average 50,000 cups each week, including a double header 90,000 cup weekend easy.

Thank you also to Gage Roads Brew Co for their combined support on the launch of our new branded cups.

In the next 12 months we hope to have prevented the use of over 1.5 million single use cups.”

Why it matters

Josh genuinely understands the problem we’re solving. Fans deserve a better experience. Venues deserve a system that actually works. And the planet deserves better than single-use cups in landfill.

“A lot goes into making stadiums work well,” said Josh. “What FSG NickNack is doing just makes sense to me. Less waste, better experience for fans on game day. I’m proud to be their ambassador.

Noel Watson, CEO of FSG NickNack, said “Josh has been part of this from the start, and seeing him engage regularly with the operation up close is a reminder of why this ambassador relationship works. He understands what we’re building and he cares about where it’s heading.”

Plenty more to come from these two and the FSG NickNack team!
